Help make the Day as success by volunteering
October 17, 2000 Geneva, NY- The eighth annual “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Geneva” Day of Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2000, which is also “National Make a Difference Day.” The day combines students and faculty of Hobart and William Smith and Geneva community citizens for a day of celebrating the community by coming together to work within the community. This year the event includes such sites as the American Legion, Washington Street Cemetery, Halloween Brunch at the Red Cross, Challenger Baseball, Waterloo Education Foundation, and many more. There are more than thirty-five sites to choose from, or volunteers may elect to go where most needed.
Volunteers will meet on the Hobart and William Smith Quad at 8 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to about noon, community service will be done in the area. After the morning's activities, everyone will gather on the Quad and for lunch and to celebrate the day. Lunch and transportation are provided.
In 1994, “Celebrate Service, Celebrate Geneva” was initiated, and over the years it has grown into a huge event including more than 1,000 volunteers and 40 work sites. This worthwhile initiative cannot be accomplished without your help. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate. HWS students and faculty, local residents, local businesses, and community leaders are urged to get involved to make this year the best one yet.
Drop boxes for registration forms are available at Tops Market, Geneva Free Library, Madia's Big M, and the Warren Hunting Smith Library on the HWS campus.
