Warren Hunting Smith Library now offers Voyager, an integrated online system that will allow library users both on and off campus access to more information resources.
January 16, 2002 Geneva, N.Y. — Hobart and William Smith Colleges students and faculty returning to campus soon will be greeted in the Colleges' Warren Hunting Smith Library by Voyager, a new online integrated system produced by Endeavor Information Systems Inc. The new system, which is expected to debut on January 16, is used by more than 850 academic and research libraries worldwide, including the Library of Congress and Cornell University.
Voyager will allow library users access to more information resources through the integration of local library resources with other web-based Internet resources. The new system also enhances online capabilities for the circulation, acquisition and cataloging functions.
With Voyager, library patrons can employ familiar web-based structures such as pull-down menus and function-specific help screens; easily limit search results to specific categories such as format, language and publication year; download e-mail search results; follow links to Internet-based research materials and electronic books; access the reserve collection; access the Colleges' archives and other special collections; review personal library records; and more. Further enhancements are expected over the coming months.
The library's reference librarians will offer the HWS community a series of half-hour workshops on searching Voyager during the first few weeks of spring semester.
From outside the library, users may access Voyager through the library's home page at http://www.hws.edu/erc.
