Moving Up Day, one of William Smith College's oldest traditions, will be held this year at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19, at the Melly Lawn, under the tent. William Smith students should assemble with fellow members of their class at 4 p.m. on the William Smith Circle to process. In case of rain, meet in the library atrium. Under severe weather conditions, the ceremony will be moved to Bristol Gynamsium. Students, alumnae, administrators, faculty, and family members gather to celebrate the College and the achievements of its women.
The afternoon begins with a traditional procession, led by the seniors, who carry a laurel garland and a class banner, followed by the other classes, each of which has it own original banner. The ceremony consists of the presentation of academic and other awards, the sharing of class legacies, the introduction of new student leaders and Hai Timiai members, and the traditional “moving up” of the classes. A reception in the library atrium follows the ceremony. R.S.V.P. to Jean Warren at firstname.lastname@example.org or ext. 3470. Those who forget to R.S.V.P., please attend anyway.
