HONOLULU–William Smith finished 12th out of 18 teams at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women's National Championships, hosted by the University of Hawaii, May 29-31. The Herons completed the competition with 375 points, trailing first place Old Dominion University's 168 points.
In the A Division, junior Sonya Smith (Falmouth/Falmouth,Mass.), senior Sarah Angell (Kent Place School/Far Hills, N.J.), and junior Sarah Hawkins (Barrington/Barrington, R.I.) placed 13th. The Herons' top team struggled during the three days of racing, but did manage a pair of top-10 finishes on Friday.
The Heron sailors enjoyed more success in the B Division. Junior Amanda Callahan (Notre Dame Academy/Canton, Mass.), junior Jen Rosthal (Stratford/Houston, Texas), and first-year Kate Kana (Gunston School/Easton, Md.) finished in the top-10 13 times, including five of six races on Friday. William Smith was seventh among B Division boats with 140 points.
The event was run out of the Honolulu Community College Marine Education and Training Center.
