Emmons Quoted on Admissions Boomlet

Record numbers of students are enrolling in college as schools deal with “the baby boom echo” or “baby boomlet” — a rise in the national birth rate that began in the 1970s and peaked in 1990. According to Don Emmons, dean of admissions and financial aid, the boomlet will be more racially and ethnically diverse than previous generations, mirroring the nation's changing racial makeup. “That is going to put enormous pressure on schools over time,” he said. The boomlet was featured in the Democrat and Chronicle, in the July 2 story “Competition for college heats up.”
