What Books Are College Students Reading?

What students at the Colleges are reading was part of a sidebar, Essential Reading, in the USA Today story “Off the bookshelf, into college debate” from the August 14 issue. The articles surveyed various colleges, including University of North Carolina, Wofford, Lafayette, Spelman and Washington colleges, and Ball State University, to see what was on the reading list for incoming students and class discussions. Students at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and Hobart and William Smith are reading Making the Most of College: Students Speak Their Minds by Richard Light (Harvard University Press, 2001), in which the author interviewed Harvard students over 10 years and offers practical advice.
