Indian Classical Music

Dhrupad, an ancient style of Hindustani classical music that is a major part of Indian culture and history by vocalist Uday Bhawalkar and Indian drummer Manikrao Munde. Bhawalkar is known as one of India's most talented dhrupad singers. Munde is known as one of the best pakhawaj (Indian drum) players in India. They will give a lecture and demonstration on North Indian classical music at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, in Williams Hall room 200. The following day they will give an Indian classical music concert at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Geneva Room.

Manikrao Munde will present an Indian drumming/rhythm workshop, Thursday, Sept. 26, from 9 until 10:10 a.m. in Williams 200. There is an attendance limit of 20 for this hands-on workshop, so interested faculty and students need to contact Bob Cowles at ext. 3404 or cowles@hws.edu to reserve a place.
