Colleges Mourn Loss

With great sadness, we inform the Colleges community of the death of one of our Hobart students, Jonathan D. Hahn ’03, in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 14. Jonathan was killed in a one-car accident on West Lake Road. The Dec. 15 Finger Lakes Times had an article about the accident.

Jonathan, a member of Chi Phi fraternity, was originally from Lewisburg, Pa., and majored in chemistry with a minor in international relations. A graduate of The Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa., he was active on the track and field and soccer teams, and earned Distinguished Musician status as a saxophone player in the Academy’s band. He was an Eagle Scout.

Jonathan’s personality and wit endeared him to all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Jonathan and Carol, and one brother, Derick. Condolences may be sent to the family:

LEWISBURG – Jonathan David Hahn, 24, of 76 Forest Drive, Lewisburg, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 14, 2002, in Geneva, N.Y., as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born May 30, 1978, in Corning, N.Y., a son of Dr. Jonathan Frederick and Carol (Shearer) Hahn of Lewisburg.

He attended Lewisburg Area High School through ninth grade. He then attended Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, graduating in 1997. He was completing his fourth year at Hobart College, majoring in chemistry, and preparing to graduate in one week. Upon graduation, he was going to begin an internship in toxicology at a forensic lab in Rochester, N.Y. He had hopes of attending graduate school in Boston.

He was employed at Knoebel's Amusement Resort for the past three summers. He also worked at the Deer Valley Ski Resort in Park City, Utah.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.

He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity at Hobart College. He enjoyed playing sports and was an Eagle Scout. He played the saxophone in the Lewisburg Concert Band, the tuba in the Lewisburg Marching Band and also played the piano.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his maternal grandmother, Romaine Shearer of Duncannon; and one brother, Derrick E. Hahn of Lewisburg.

There are no services planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
