Matt Yarger '04, a chemistry major, was featured in the Dec. 29 article “Serious students use the break to learn” from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Yarger, a junior who hopes to enter research or medicine, studies the flexibility and molecular behavior of HIV inhibitor drugs. “I learned it’s a devastating disease and it’s going to take a lot of minds to figure this out,” said Yarger in the article. “What we’re doing in the lab is of serious concern to society today.”
Carol Parish, assistant professor of chemistry, said Yarger’s volunteer work could lead to independent study and possibly a research fellowship. “It’s very unusual for an undergraduate to be working on the cutting-edge research like this,” she said.
