Hobart and William Smith Colleges Community Chorus rehearsals have resumed Monday evenings, in Williams Hall on the Colleges campus.
January 21, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith Colleges Community Chorus, directed by Sun Min Lee, comprises students, faculty, and staff at the Colleges and members of the surrounding community. The Colleges Community Chorus rehearses from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. Monday evenings in Williams Hall on the Colleges campus. The next rehearsal for the spring semester will be Jan. 27. Those interested in joining are welcome to attend.
The 40-voice ensemble performs major works from the standard repertoire as well as lesser-known works deserving wider familiarity. The spring concert, scheduled for 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at the Presbyterian Church in Geneva, will include Bach's Wedding Cantata, Samuel Barber's “Sure on This Shining Night,” “Danny Boy,” arranged by Joseph Flummerfelt, and “The Promise of Living” from Aaron Copland's “The Tender Land,” as well as spirituals and other folk songs.
Community Chorus Director Sun Min Lee earned her bachelor's degree from Presbyterian College in Seoul, Korea, and her master's degree from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Princeton, N.J. She also holds an advanced diploma in Kodaly Method (music education) from the Zoltan Kodaly Institute of Music in Kecskemet, Hungary. Lee was invited to Korea for the summer of 2001 to give a lecture at the Seoul Oratorio Festival as well as to conduct the Kwang Ju Civic Chorus. She is currently enrolled in the DMA program at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.
