Members of the Geneva Fire Department were given the opportunity to use 109 Hamilton St. as a training area before the house was demolished. Fireman Ken DeBolt, Colleges sports information director, instructed the training. He and the other members of the fire department would like to thank the Colleges for the use of the building. The following is a note from them, as well as photographs of the training:
On behalf of the members of the Geneva Fire Department, I would like to thank you for providing us the opportunity to use 109 Hamilton St. for training on July 16. We had 18 members of the department take part in three hours of search & rescue and ventilation training. It is a rare and valuable opportunity for us to be able to practice cutting holes in a roof. Usually we use palettes to simulate cutting a roof, but actually being on a roof and cutting on a slope is a totally different experience and one our firefighters need before responding to an alarm. Many of those who participated in our training had never been on a roof before, so the Colleges’ generosity has helped us be better prepared to protect the Geneva community.
