A profile of Dr. Laura Hamilton '78 was published in the Oct. 2002 “In Good Health” Central New York healthcare newsletter. While she was at William Smith she received EMT and CPR training, worked in the local hospital emergency room, and shadowed physicians. She attended Upstate Medical University in Syracuse and did her residency through the health profession scholarship program with the Army. She served as a second lieutenant reservist in medical school, then elective rotation as active duty for 45 days, and finished at the Tripler Army Medical Facility in Hawaii. After leaving the Army in 1988 she went into private practice in Lacona, N.Y., then joined a group practice in Rochester. Missing the rural area, she went to the Parish Health Center. She opened a new private practice, New Concept Medical Care, in Brewerton, and began seeing patients Sept. 30. In the new practice she hopes to improve patient access to doctors by using a computerized office and electronic medical records. Hamilton says this is an initiative across the country.
