Volunteers from the area will unite with the common purpose of giving back to the Greater Geneva community for Day of Service, Oct. 4. The event is being planned by volunteers from all areas of out community with support from local businesses, service providers, and educational institutions.
One of the co-chairs, Matt Johnston '04, had an editorial titled “Day of Service a rewarding experience” published in the Sept. 30 Finger Lakes Times. The service event was also featured in the paper Oct. 1.
Day of Service is a day of community service, helping local non-profit organizations, agencies and individuals. Tools and supplies will be provided; all volunteers need to provide are clothing and enthusiasm.
Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. on the Stern Hall lawn. The work will be performed in the greater Geneva area, and transportation will be provided. A celebration on Stern Hall lawn will start at 1:30 p.m. Volunteers may register the day of the event or online at www.hws.edudayofservice.
A special service festival for kids begins at 10 a.m. at the Barn. Children, eight years old and under, and their parents/guardians are invited to participate in age-appropriate service, games, and entertainment that revolve around caring about and helping others. Register in advance or at the door.
