Johnson has Op-Ed in D&C

Cedric Johnson, assistant professor of political science, had an op-ed published in the Oct. 20 Democrat and Chronicle. In his article, titled “Not Just Black Men, “ he says “the focus on 'black male responsibility' as a curative to violent crime denies non-blacks and women responsibility and agency in addressing this problem. All citizens have a stake in making Rochester a safer place. Furthermore, emphasis on personal responsibility has its origins in neo-conservative mythology regarding the urban 'underclass' which mischaracterizes the black urban poor as essentially irresponsible, unlawful and ungovernable.” Johnson joined the Colleges faculty in 2001.
