Hobart College received the top seed in the ECAC Northeast Men’s Soccer Championship and will host the semifinals and finals on Nov.15-16. The Statesmen will take on four seed Geneseo on Nov. 15, at 11 a.m., while second-seeded Plattsburgh State will square off with three seed University of Rochester at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be played on McCooey Field. Hobart (14-6-1) enters the weekend after posting its best record since 1992. The Statesmen offense is led by 2003 UCAA Player of the Year Micke Subotowicz with 12 goals and 10 assists, while junior Ricky Klotz leads the team with 14 goals. Defensively, 2003 UCAA Rookie of the Year Farid Hafsia anchors a Hobart backline that has helped post five shutouts. Geneseo (10-6-3) advanced to the semifinals after beating Fredonia State 3-1 on Wednesday. David Fink leads the Knights in scoring with six goals and one assist, while goalkeeper Chris Stock sports a 0.93 goals against average and seven shutouts this season.
The second game of the afternoon features the Cardinals and the Yellowjackets. Plattsburgh (15-4-0) is averaging 3.42 goals a game, behind the scoring of sophomore Mike Figliola (24-6-54) and Tim Stanley (11-3-25). Rochester enters the match after beating Vassar in a penalty kick shootout on Wednesday evening. Nate Micklos leads the Yellowjackets in the scoring column with 12 goals and four assists, while goalkeeper Brian Minehan anchors a defense with a 0.96 goals against average and seven shutouts.
The winners of the game will advance to the championship game on Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. The site for that contest has yet to be determined.
