Colleges Students Perform ‘A Hard Heart’

A play of riddles and enigmas by Howard Barker, one of England's most audacious playwrights, takes the stage at Bartlett Theatre

(January 22, 2004) GENEVA, N.Y.–Students at Hobart and William Smith Colleges will perform “A Hard Heart” at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 5-7, in Bartlett Theatre, Coxe Hall, on the Colleges campus.

Directed by Robert F. Gross, professor of comparative literature, the play focuses on the city of Platea, which is under siege from a savage, unnamed enemy. Riddler, “a woman of originality,” is brought in to save it. Her plans are increasingly ingenious and controversial. Is Riddler saving the city or destroying it?

The cast includes first-year Jamie Agnello (Oil City, Pa.), sophomore Quinn Hurley (Wildwood Crest, N.J.) and seniors Evan Griswold (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), Heather Harris (Morgantown, W.Va.) and Matt Johnston (Skaneateles, N.Y.).

Performances are free for students, $5 for general admission. Tickets can be picked up for each evening's performance one hour before curtain at the Coxe Hall box office.
