Colleges Announce Appointment of Senior Major Gifts Officer

Sarah B. Gaffin '78 rejoins HWS development team

(January 26, 2004) Geneva, N.Y. — Michael J. Catillaz, Hobart and William Smith Colleges' vice president for institutional advancement, announces the appointment of Sarah Yancey Gaffin '78 to the position of senior major gifts officer. She began her duties at the Colleges on January 12, 2004.

In this position, Gaffin plays a key role in maintaining philanthropic relationships, and will assist with special events management and development projects. She reports to Michael Mattson, assistant vice president for gift planning and major gifts.

Gaffin returns to the Colleges after seven years serving in various development capacities at the Rochester Institute of Technology and WXXI Public Broadcasting. She most recently served as vice president of development for WXXI. Prior to 1997 she held several positions at Hobart and William Smith, including director of planned giving, director of annual support and director of the Parents Association.

“Sarah not only has a strong background in identifying and stewarding donors, she also has a very great affinity for these Colleges and a deep understanding of the alumni and alumnae with whom she'll be working,” said Catillaz. “We are very pleased that she has chosen to rejoin our staff.”

Gaffin is associated with a number of professional organizations and has made several profession presentations in her field. A graduate of William Smith College, Gaffin resides with her husband, Hal, in Honeoye Falls.
