Colleges Announce New Chief Information Officer

Alfred L. Damiano joins HWS Senior Staff

(Feb. 5, 2004) GENEVA, N.Y.—Lynne M. Wiley, Hobart and William Smith Colleges' vice president for institutional planning, announces the appointment of Alfred L. Damiano to the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO). Formerly the director of technology programs and support services for Xerox Global Services, he began his duties on Jan. 26.

Damiano brings a unique blend of technology, business and teaching experience to the CIO role. During his 20-year career, he has held a variety of technology and management positions with McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Company, The Travelers Insurance Company, Commercial Systems Inc., and, most recently, the Xerox Corporation. For the past five years he has taught graduate courses in advanced information technology for the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. He holds a B.S. in computer information systems from Bentley College, and an M.B.A. from the University of Central Florida.

“Fred brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the position,” said Wiley. “I'm confident that our IT division will make great strides under Fred's leadership in the years to come.”

As CIO, Damiano will advance a shared vision for information technology that is broadly embraced throughout and beyond the campus. He will also work with faculty, staff, students, senior administrators, trustees, and advisory groups to develop policies and prioritize information technology initiatives.

Damiano resides in Fairport with his wife, Judy, and their children Eric, Brent and Livia.
