Maslenitsa is a time to eat and play and kiss winter goodbye. It's a Russian Winter Carnival, a Mardi Gras in the snow. Come celebrate Maslenitsa Feb. 18 through Feb. 24. Events will include music, food, contests, performances, and partying.
An evening of films will feature the Petrouchka ballet, a Tchaikovsky gala and animated films. Pianist Ed Lee will perform Mussorgsky's Pictures of an Exhibition, as well as works of Rachmaninov and Scriabin. “Brat I” will be shown for both the 12 Windows film series and the Maslenitsa celebration. The film is a Russian blockbuster film dealing with the darkest side of recent economic and political transition. A full schedule is posted here.
The opening celebration will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the library atrium. Join in for the student photo contest, exhibits, and Russian food and music.
