James A. Burruto returns to the Colleges to serve as liaison between campus and New York State Department of Education
(March 2, 2004) GENEVA, N.Y.–Hobart and William Smith Colleges announce the appointment of James A. Burruto as director of the Colleges' Higher Education Opportunity Programs (HEOP), a state-assisted academic program. In his new position, Burruto will work with the New York State Department of Education to provide academically underprepared and socio-economically disadvantaged students access to HEOP services.
Burruto will return to the office where he had served as counselor for several years. In August 2003, he left the Colleges to become the assistant director for student life for La Pietra, New York University's study-abroad center in Florence, Italy.
Burruto earned a B.A. in sociology from SUNY- Potsdam and an M.S. in higher education administration from the Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester.
He began his duties at HWS on March 1.
