Eta Sigma Phi, the National Classics Honor Society, held a formal installation ceremony establishing its new chapter at Hobart and William Smith on Oct. 24. Eleven students were inducted as charter members: Caitlin Babbitt, Melissa Benjamin, Lindsay Brown, Jamie Cragg, Jamie Holland, Kate Kana, Margaret McGill, Caroline Miller, Lauren Severino, Leya Tesmenitsky, and Peter Tierney. Also inducted were honorary members Michael Armstrong, Roger Loucks, and Mary O’Malley. The ceremony was conducted by Lynn Sawlivich, chapter advisor and assistant professor of classics. Founded in 1914, Eta Sigma Phi recognizes students of high achievement in the study of Greek and Latin languages, while promoting interest in Greek and Roman culture both in schools and among the general public.
