Brass, jazz and woodwind groups give final performances of the academic year
(April 13, 2004) GENEVA, N.Y.–Each spring, as a culmination of their work, Hobart and William Smith Colleges' student instrumental ensembles stage performances for the HWS and greater Geneva communities. This year is no exception. During the last week of April and the first week of May, the Colleges' brass, jazz and woodwind ensembles each present a concert on the HWS campus.
The Brass Ensemble's spring concert begins at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, at St. John's Chapel. Directed by James Trowbridge, the group will perform works by Canadian Brass, Dukas, J.S. Bach and others.
At 7 p.m. on Friday, April 30, in Albright Auditorium, the Jazz Ensemble performs a variety of charts in jazz styles, from mainstream to avant-garde. Local jazz trumpeter Nick Moses join the group, which is directed by Bob Barbuto.
The Colleges Woodwind and String Ensembles join forces at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, in St. John's Chapel. Directed by John Oberbrunner, the woodwinds perform works by Johann Quantz, Jean-Baptiste Loeillet, Johann Sebastian Bach and others. The repertoire for the String Ensemble, directed by Andrew Zaplatynsky, includes works by George Phillip Telemann and Antonio Vivaldi.
Admission is free at all three events.
