President Mark Gearan was quoted in the story “Peace Corps announces call for volunteers” from the Nov. 1 El Paso Times, El Paso, Texas.
According to the article, the Peace Corps is experiencing an increase in applications, and officials credit a struggling economy and presidential promotion.
“That the president is promoting the Peace Corps shows how much Peace Corps perceptions have evolved,” said Gearan. “Through the years the Peace Corps has become bipartisan — or nonpartisan. With 165,000 Americans who've lived and worked around the globe, it's good for us,” he said. “It's a domestic dividend.”
