Colleges Name New Major Gifts Officer

Joe Ambrosetti joins HWS development staff

(September 8, 2004) Geneva, N.Y. — Michael J. Catillaz, vice president for institutional advancement at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, has announced the appointment of Joseph Ambrosetti as a major gifts officer on the Colleges' development staff. Ambrosetti started in this capacity in August.

At HWS, Ambrosetti is charged with cultivating and stewarding alumni and alumnae of the Colleges in philanthropic endeavors, overseeing the solicitation and distribution of their time, talent and monetary contributions. He works closely with members of the Colleges' staff and Board of Trustees to identify gift opportunities.

With a varied career that includes sales management, employee benefits and consulting, Ambrosetti comes to the Colleges from an aerospace manufacturing company located in Ithaca, N.Y., where he managed OEM jet engine and industrial gas turbine clients worldwide.

Ambrosetti's decades of management and customer relations experience stand him in good stead in his new endeavor, given the highly interpersonal nature of the position. “Joe brings significant energy and enthusiasm to this position,” said Catillaz. “I know he will be an asset to our team.”

A graduate of SUNY Fredonia, Ambrosetti is involved in a number of professional organizations, including SERTOMA International, a not-for-profit organization that helps those with speech, hearing and language disorders. He was named Sertoman of the Year for the Norfolk, Va., chapter in 2000.

Ambrosetti resides in Geneva with his wife and two daughters.
