Professor of philosophy Steven Lee was quoted in the Dec. 10 Rochester Democrat and Chronicle article “The horrors make you consider licensing of parents.” Columnist Denise-Marie Santiago considered the question of having parents obtain a license in order to have children.
Lee said if enforcement were not a problem licensing would be the correct thing to do. “The rights of adults to procreate would be overridden by the rights of children to be properly raised. The children have a lot more at stake than the parents do,” he said.
Lee joined the faculty of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1981. He has written a number of books and co-authored a book with faculty members of the Colleges. He has also written for numerous publications and is frequently consulted by a variety of publications for his expertise in ethics, nuclear weapons, and just war theory.
