The Hobart College basketball team will closeout the Liberty League regular season this weekend, hosting Rensselaer at 8 p.m., on Feb. 18, and Vassar at 4 p.m., on Feb. 19. The Statesmen (14-8) are in first place in the conference with a 9-3 record, one game ahead of second place Skidmore.
Hobart secured a spot in the four-team Liberty League Championship Tournament with a 94-84 overtime win at Hamilton on Feb. 15. A win over the Red Hawks would secure the top seed in the playoffs and earn the Statesmen the right to host the fray, scheduled for Feb. 25-26.
Junior guard Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) leads Hobart in scoring, tossing in 16.8 ppg. He is one of the top three-point shooters in the nation (.523, 46-88) and is one game shy of tying the Statesmen record for consecutive games with a trifecta (21, by Michael Gambino ’02).
Despite a 25-point effort by Feane, Rensselaer (13-10, 6-6) defeated Hobart in Troy 79-67 on Jan. 29. The Statesmen led that game, 35-32, at the break, but the Red Hawks overcame the deficit, shooting 57 percent from the floor in the second half.
Against the Brewers (12-10, 5-7), Hobart will look to complete a season sweep, following a 72-60 win in Poughkeepsie on Jan. 28. Prior to the start of the game, the Statesmen will honor seniors Joe Flacke (Schenectady/Schenectady, N.Y.), Eric Jacks (St. Sebatian’s/Dorchester, Mass.), and Zack Stelzner (Berkeley Carroll/Brooklyn, N.Y.).
WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3) will broadcast both games live. Additional coverage, including live real-time statistics and streaming audio, can be accessed online at www.hws.edu/statesmen/basketball/schedule.asp.
