This Weekend, HWS Hits the Court and the Field

Student-athletes at the Colleges are busy this weekend, as the Herons basketball team travels to the NCAA second round game, Statesmen basketball competes in the ECAC semifinal round, the Statesmen lacrosse team battles Binghamton in the home-opener game and club lacrosse hosts a round-robin invitational.

Game details are as follows:

The Herons travel to Oswego State University on Saturday, March 5, for the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament second round match up. Tipoff in Laker Hall is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students. On March 11, the winner will take on the winner of the Alvernia at Bowdoin game at a site and time to be determined.

The fourth-seeded Statesmen basketball team will travel to play top-seeded Oswego State in the ECAC Upstate Tournament Semifinal round on Friday, March 4, at 8 p.m. The winner advances to the title game on Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. Ticket prices for the ECAC games are $4 for adults and $1 for students.

The Hobart College lacrosse team will host Binghamton University in its 2005 home-opener on Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. on McCooey Field. Admission is free. The Statesmen (1-0) are coming off an 11-7 season-opening win over Butler University last weekend at St. Paul’s School in Brooklandville, Md. Junior Nate Molinari and sophomore Chris David tallied three goals apiece, while first-year Sean Murphy added a pair of scores and an assist in the victory.

Club lacrosse teams from Fredonia State, Bucknell, Binghamton University and Hobart will begin play at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, on McCooey Field in a round-robin match. This fast paced action does not end until each team has played two games.

Next weekend prepare to root for junior Sarah Costanza and senior Becky Grossman as they compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on March 10-12 in Holland, Mich. Costanza is making her second consecutive appearance, while Grossman is a first-time qualifier. Hosted by Hope College, the NCAA Division III Championships kick off on March 10, at 11 a.m.
