The Commencement ceremony for the Classes of 2005 will begin today, Sunday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m., on the Quad. Contributing editor, television script writer and former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers will offer the Commencement address.
A schedule of Commencement 2005 activities and other Commencement information is also available.
Most well known as being the youngest and first female press secretary for former President Bill Clinton in the early 1990s, Myers is well respected for her sharp political instincts, sense of humor and ability to explain complex subjects in straightforward language. Her speeches are known for their eloquent clarity and humor.
“Dee Dee Myers will serve as an inspiration to our graduating students,” says Colleges' President Mark D. Gearan of his former White House colleague. “Dee Dee Myers became involved in the issues of our time at a very young age, serving as the first female press secretary in the White House. She will be able to reflect on these experiences on this important day in their lives.”
Gearan also noted Myers' commitment to higher education as displayed through her service as the vice chair for the California State University Board of Trustees.
In addition to her political work, Myers has publicly displayed her ability to have fun, playing herself in the 1997 thriller “Contact” and appearing as a guest on both “Jeopardy” and “Hollywood Squares.”
