President Bush held a town hall meeting in Greece May 24 to present his ideas for Social Security reform to the greater Rochester audience. The visit involved several members of the Colleges community.
Bush “has done I think 25 or 26 of these, where he's gone around to different towns pushing Social Security,” said Iva Deutchman, professor of political science, in the article “Papers, networks pay little attention” in the May 25 Democrat and Chronicle.
Gail Hoesterey, supervisor of central services, is a 1972 graduate of Greece Athena High School, where the meeting was held, and was excited that the president of the United States visited this region.
“It's kind of neat to say 'I went to school there,'” Hoesterey said in the May 24 Finger Lakes Times article “Bush brings debate upstate.”
President Mark Gearan co-hosted the ABC-TV affiliate Channel 13WHAM's live coverage of the visit with nightly news anchor Don Alhart. Gearan discussed the inner workings of the presidency, presidential travel and Air Force One.
