Stanley Mathews, HWS professor of art and architecture joined a symposium on Wednesday, September 21, to discuss the pivotal contributions of the late British architect Cedric Price to contemporary architecture. The event was moderated by Mark Wigley, Dean of the Graduate School of Architecture at Columbia University, and held at Columbia's Avery Hall to a standing-room crowd. Other panelists included internationally-known architects Juan Herreros, Bernard Tschumi, and Michael Webb. Mathews received his PhD from Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, and his pioneering doctoral work has helped to establish Price as a major contributor to contemporary architectural discourse. In addition to his recent lectures and symposia on Price's work, Mathews has written four forthcoming articles on Price, and has contracted with London's Black Dog Publishing Ltd to produce the first authoritative monograph on Price, due to appear next Fall.
