Sankofa invites the HWS community to a traditional Kwanzaa feast from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 in the Faculty Dining Room at the Scandling Center.
Professor Cedric Johnson of the Political Science faculty will present the program. He earned his bachelor's degree at Southern University; a master's at Ohio State University; and his doctorate at The University of Maryland. His fields of special interest include the Black Power Movement, New Left Movement, welfare reform, race and environmental politics.
Kwanzaa is an African-American celebration that spans seven days of observance, with each day characterized by a guiding principle: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
