An art show, “Recent Work,” featuring pieces by Chris Fletcher, an adjunct professor in the HWS Art Department, recently opened at Houghton House.
An opening reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, also at Houghton House, to which the public is invited. The exhibit, in place through Feb. 13, includes “Untamed Sphinxes” (2005) at left.
In his artist's statement, Fletcher, who joined the faculty last year, discussed the unique internal logic of the singular painting, a shape functioning both as a link in a two-dimensional design and as a plane in a representation of three dimensional volume.
“Keeping shapes of color evenly modulated helps me to concentrate on the character of the relationships between them. These relationships include those of part to part, part to whole, part to group, group to group, and group to whole.”
