Reception today for Vietnamese scholar

Professor Jack Harris of the anthropology/sociology faculty will host a reception for Dr. Tran Thi Phuong Phuong, a visiting Vietnamese scholar, at 5 p.m. today on the ground floor of Stern Hall.

Phuong is on the faculty of the Department of Literature, Linguistics and Journalism at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hochiminh City, Vietnam.

She holds a bachelor's degree in Russian (language and literature) from the State University of Odessa, USSR; a bachelor's in English, a master's in literature and a doctorate in literature, all from the National University of Hochiminh City.

She spent 18 months — all of one academic year and part of a second — as a visiting fellow at Harvard University, and has published works on Tolstoy, Pushkin, Dostoyevsky and on Russian literature.

Her visit is part of a grant the Colleges received from the ASIANetwork, the Luce Foundation, and the American Council of Learned Societies.

All interested community members are invited.
