Colleges Praised

The Geneva Finger Lakes Times published an editorial Dec. 22, titled “HWS benefits noteworthy.” The editorial outlined the planned campus improvements, as well as the request for bonds from the Geneva Industrial Development Agency. The editor praised the Colleges' presence, writing, “HWS, in many positive ways, defines what it means to be a college town. Its presence increases the cultural opportunities; its students spend money in the community, which generates tax dollars; and its increased interaction with city organizations in recent years has influenced the welfare of many local agencies in need of volunteers. A May 2000 economic impact study completed by colleges’ representatives found that the city receives more than $22 million by having HWS within its boundaries.”
