President Mark D. Gearan announced on Monday, Feb. 27 that Susan Robertson, senior associate dean for external relations at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, has been named Director of Communications at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, effective March 20.
“I am delighted that Susan will be heading our communications effort,” Gearan said.
“She brings a breadth of experience in personal, alumni and institutional communications — in print, broadcast and electronic media — that will help increase the Colleges’ exposure and get our messages in front of numerous groups.” He made the announcement at a luncheon meeting of the Administrative Advisory Committee in the Scandling Center.
Robertson holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in media studies, both from Indiana University, Bloomington. Since 1990, she has been at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, in public relations positions with increasing responsibility. Before that, she was a classical music announcer and news producer for public radio, a research assistant examining the psychology of entertainment, and an instructor of broadcast writing at IU.
Robertson succeeds Susan Murad, who left the Colleges in February 2004 to accept a public relations position with an Albany bank.
