The HWS College Republicans will host a speech by Christina Hoff Sommers at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 in the Geneva Room of the Warren Hunting Smith Library.
Her talk is free and open to the public. She is expected to talk about her second book, “The War Against Boys” (Simon and Schuster, 2001), in which che claims that boys, not girls, are being shortchanged academically.
Sommers is a fellow of the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research in Washington, D.C., where she specializes in feminism and American culture, American adolescents, and morality in American society. She has also been critical of Women's Studies departments across the United States.
A former university philosophy professor, she is also the author of “Who Stole Feminism?” (Simon and Schuster, 1995). “The War Against Boys” was named a “Notable Book of the Year” by The New York Times.
Sommers has also written articles for The Chicago Tribune, The New Republic, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. She has also appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The McLaughlin Group and other broadcast news programs.
She holds a bachelor's from New York University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; and a doctorate in philosophy from Brandeis University.
