Ludwig Gaines ’88 is running for Alexandria City Council democratic candidate. The Democratic Caucus is on Feb. 1, and voters will select six Democratic candidates to run in the May 7 City Council general election. Gaines is currently a law professor at the Howard University School of Law and a legal and policy consultant with Government & Business Solutions, Inc. (G&B Solutions), an information technology and management consultant company founded in Alexandria and based in McLean, Va. Prior to that he was an antitrust lawyer with the law firm of Morgan, Lewis, and judicial law clerk to the Honorable Paul R. Webber III, a former local “trial judge of the year.” He also clerked in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, with the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force. His first job out of college was as a caseworker for the Bureau of Child Welfare in New York City, investigating home placements for abandoned and neglected children.
Gaines was elected second vice chair of the Alexandria United Way and vice president of the Alexandria NAACP. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce’s Education Partnership, the board of trustees of the INOVA Alexandria Hospital Foundation, and the board of directors of the Friends of Freedmen’s Cemetery (FFC).
