David H. Deming ’75 of Oyster Bay, NY, was elected Chair of the Board of Trustees of Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Sunday, April 30. Maureen Collins Zupan ’72 of Cazenovia, NY, was re-elected as Vice Chair. Both leaders will start their terms on
“David Deming’s insights, strategies and actions already have generated great respect among his fellow board members and the Colleges’ administration.
“We are enthusiastic about his leadership as we start to build upon the superb legacy of Chair Charles Salisbury,” said President Mark D. Gearan. “This new team will be further strengthened by Maureen Zupan’s history of executive experience on the Hobart and William Smith Board.”
During Deming’s six years as a Trustee of the Colleges, he has been a member of the Audit, Financial Affairs, Institutional Advancement, Investments, and Trustees committees, and Chair of the Enrollment Management Committee. He is managing director of Integrated Finance Limited in Manhattan, an investment firm that runs two hedge funds and pension management services.
The global investment firm has offices in New York, London and Tokyo. Prior to IFL, Deming spent 27 years at J.P. Morgan, where he was the global head of the firm’s Investment Banking Healthcare Group, which he founded in 1991. He later combined three banking teams — Chase, Hambrecht & Quist and Morgan — to create the leading health care investment banking practice in the world.
He is a member of the board of trustees of AgiNOx Pharmaceuticals in Menlo Park, Calif., a private biotechnology firm. He and his wife, the former Jamie Tilghman, are the parents of two grown children, Peter and Julia Deming.
Zupan, a financial planner with Sagemark Consulting in Syracuse, has been a trustee of the Colleges for 12 years. She has served on the Audit, Compensation, Financial Affairs, Institutional Advancement, and Trustees committees.
In addition, she has been a key member of several Reunion coordinating committees and the Campaign steering committee. Zupan is an emeritus trustee of the Upstate University Foundation and Secretary of the Cazenovia Area Community Development Association. She and her husband, William Zupan ’72, are the parents of two children, Michael and Cathleen ’09 Zupan.
