A recent graduate and two rising seniors recently gave poster presentations at the first Northeast Regional Sigma Xi Conference for Undergraduate and Graduate Students at Cornell University in Ithaca.
Kathryn Feller '06 received second place honorary mention for her poster, which presented the results of research on the characterization of opsin genes in bat retinas. This work was completed under the faculty mentorship of Kristy Kenyon, assistant professor of biology, as a senior honors project for which Feller received high honors.
Jared Desrochers and Helen Carr, members of the Classes of 2007, presented research completed as independent study projects during the spring 2006 semester under the faculty mentorship of Neil Laird, assistant professor of Geoscience.
Desrochers' research consisted of a climatological study of Lake Champlain lake-effect snows in northern New York and Vermont. Carr presented an investigation of New York State Finger Lake snow band events.
