Bahar Davary, assistant professor of religious studies, talked about “Understanding Islam” and women’s rights in the Middle East at the Together in Christ dinner meeting on January 22 at Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, in Newark.
Davary earned her B.A. in Islamic theology at Tehran University, her M.A. in comparative religion and mysticism also at Tehran University and her Ph.D. in Catholic theological tradition, at Catholic University of America. Her interest is in comparative religions and inter-religious dialogue as well as the study of Christian and Islamic feminist theories.
She teaches classes on religions in history and around the world, Islamic religious traditions, gender and Islam, Islamic mysticism, Muslim women in literature, Islam and the west, approaches to Islam and Christianity, and ecology and the sacred.
