This weekend, Hobart Student Government is sponsoring a competition among the students of all four classes. First-year, sophomore, junior and senior men will “test their will and valor to prove which class can reign victorious for the coming year,” says HSG President Brian Schubmehl ’07.
There are four competitions in which the classes can receive points. The first “feats of strength” will include a Tug-o-War and a pie-eating contest that will begin at 4:25 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 on the Quad. These events will be followed by the return of “Fall Nationals,” a soapbox-type derby, on Smith Hill, where representatives of each class will enter a homemade wheeled vehicle.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, a class-color competition will be held in conjunction with the Hobart Statesmen football game that begins at 1 p.m. on Boswell Field. First-years get points for wearing light blue, sophomores are asked to wear red, juniors can don orange, while seniors should wear purple.
The results from each contest will be tallied during the football game. The winner of the Hobart Class Cup will be announced and presented to the winning class president during halftime ceremonies.
“These events are intended to be a good time for all and hopefully will bring a great new Hobart tradition to life,” says Schubmehl.
