Sankofa presents Kwanzaa Celebration

Sankofa: The Black Student Union invites the community to the annual Kwanzaa Celebration, which will begin with a dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 in the Faculty Dining Room of the Scandling Center.

J. Bediaku Manin, an adjunct professor in history and criminal law at Monroe Community College; executive director of the Baobab Cultural Center and a member of the Democrat and Chronicle Sounding Board, will be the featured speaker; tickets are $5 for students and $7 for others, and are now available at The College Store.

Candles lighted during the holiday represent Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity) and Imani (Faith).
