Dean emeritus joins literacy group’s board

Dr. Clarence E. Butler, dean emeritus of Hobart College, recently joined the board of directors of Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County, based in Canandaigua.

He retired from Hobart and William Smith Colleges last summer, having served as dean of Hobart since 1998 and a member of the German department faculty since the fall of 1979. He previously was a member of the faculties at Brown University and Dartmouth College.

Since his retirement, Butler was also named interim rector of Trinity Episcopal Church on South Main Street.
