The community is invited to learn about wind farms, alternative sources of energy and global warming beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Finger Lakes Institute Classroom.
Tom Drennen, HWS Professor of Economics, will be joined by a representative of Horizon Wind Energy Representative for a screening of the movie, “Tapping Maple Ridge,” and a discussion afterward.
The film illustrates the visual and conceptual correspondences between the sugar bush (a stand of maple trees tapped for syrup) and the wind farm. Interviews with maple syrup producers, Tug Hill landowners, Lewis County residents, and wind energy developers reinforce and elaborate on those relationships.
“Tapping Maple Ridge” was funded by Horizon Wind Energy and PPM Energy, partners in the Maple Ridge Wind Farm.
Drennen will offer his expertise on scientific research of wind turbines/farms, the economics of wind energy, and differing public opinions and perspectives.
Registration requested by calling (315) 781-4382 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
