The Latin American Organization has invited the community to the second annual Cañizares Lecture Series, starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 in the library's Sanford Room.
This year's event will feature Colleen Kattau, a bilingual singer and songwriter of New Song and Nueva canción. She performs original alternative acoustic music in a splendidly energetic mix of poetry and rhythm.
Her voice, which can be strong or tender, has been likened to that of Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant and Shawn Colvin. Kattau has performed at many colleges and universities, women's festivals, environmental festivals and Latin American and labor solidarity events, both alone and with her band, Night Skies.
The series honors the memory of Anita Cañizares, director for the Center for Teaching and Learning, who was also member of the Committee for Diversity Equity and Social Justice, the Faculty Advising Committee, and a member of the Education Department faculty.
A reception will follow her talk, in at the Intercultural Affairs Center; all are invited.
