Sheila Bennett, an HWS professor of Sociology and Asian Studies, will lead “Yoga Cara – Living Well: Cancer Self-Care and Empowerment Workshop” this weekend in Linehan Chapel on the campus of Nazareth College in Rochester.
The session will teach classical yoga poses, regulated breathing, and relaxation techniques to improve the physical and emotional system for individual empowerment and well being during and after cancer treatment. Bennett recently returned from studying yoga therapy in India.
Leading the sessions with Bennett will be Marget Lee Braun, owner of Urban Spa Coaching who teaches yoga at Nazareth College in Rochester, and is past executive director of a national cancer organization. Marget has published articles in a variety of yoga magazines.
Yoga the Rejuvenator, the opening session of the weekend, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 18 and will emphasize Coaching for Self-Care and The Yoga of Personal Renewal.
On Saturday, May 19, the afternoon session will be on Yoga Skills for Gentle Empowerment, and will cover Transformation, the Body and Cancer, emphasizing Fundamental Poses, Modifications and Sequencing, Working with Side Effects and Developing a Home Practice.
