The Hobart and William Smith campus community paused this morning to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. President Mark D. Gearan and Chaplain Lesley Adams led a service at the flagpole near Salisbury Center at Trinity Hall beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The American flag was lowered at 8:45 a.m., the time that the first jet crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. The service commemorated those who lost their lives that day at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pa.
The Colleges lost three alumni at the World Trade Center: Andrew H. Golkin, a 1993 graduate of Hobart College who majored in economics, was a member of the Hobart Statesmen football team, Kappa Sigma, Inter-fraternity Council, and the International Business Club; Scott W. Rohner, a 2001 graduate of Hobart College, who majored in economics and played basketball and football for the Statesmen; and Michael J. Simon, a 1983 graduate of Hobart College, who majored in economics and was a member of Theta Delta Chi.
Colleges' Chaplain Lesley Adams posted her thoughts and prayers about the service on her weblog.
