Media and Society Program invites the community to a screening of Danny Schechter's highly-praised documentary, “Weapons of Mass Deception,” beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the library's Sanford Room.
The Media and Society Senior Seminar is presenting the film as the first in a series of documentaries intended to inform the community of the realities of the war and to offer an opportunity to speak out and discuss the war.
The film explores the failure of mainstream journalism to probe the proffered reasons for going to war in Iraq. Schechter, an award-winning producer who has worked for ABC's “20/20” and CNN as well as being the author of several books, concludes with advice on how ordinary citizens could get involved in demanding better news coverage.
Schechter is the editor of MediaChannel.org, the largest internet media-watch network. His daily analysis of news is featured on the MediaChannel.org blog site.
The screening will include a presentation by Kathryn Cappocio '08, a Media and Society major and member of the Senior Seminar, which is presenting the documentary series. A question-and-answer period will follow.
