Statesmen Receive NCAA Football Bid

GENEVA, N.Y.–The Hobart College football team learned late on Sunday morning that it had received one of 10 at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Playoffs. The Statesmen will travel to St. John Fisher College on Nov. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

The NCAA mandates ticket prices of $8 for adults, $4 for students with proper ID from the competing institutions; although hosts schools can charge more if they choose.

The Statesmen will make their fourth consecutive (sixth overall) appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Hobart finished the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and will head to Rochester riding a seven-game winning streak. The Statesmen earned a share of their seventh Liberty League Championship, but lost out on the conference's automatic bid on the head-to-head tie breaker with Rensselaer.

The Cardinals will make their third NCAA Tournament appearance. St. John Fisher posted a 9-1 overall record and earned a share of the Empire 8 championship. But, like the Statesmen, the Cardinals had to rely on an at-large bid because the E8 automatic bid went to Hartwick based on the Hawks 31-28 win over SJF.

Hobart and St. John Fisher squared off 14 times between 1990 and 2003 with the Statesmen holding a 10-4 series lead.
