During Winter Break, the Career Services Office will host the 2nd Annual Day on the Hill, an exciting event for political science majors and others who want to learn more about the world of politics from many different angles. Professor Iva Deutchman and Assistant Professor DeWayne Lucas will guide a group of students in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and Thursday the 10th. The visit will include speakers from Congress, the FBI, presidential campaigns and various political groups.
The event will give students a bird’s eye view of working in D.C. with visits to many organizations such as Democratic National Committee, Republican National Committee, American Association of Political Consultants and Center for American Progress. Additionally, Day on the Hill will include a lunch where students can network, as well as an evening reception hosted in conjunction with the HWS D.C. Club’s annual holiday party.
In order to participate, students must apply, and applications can be found in Salisbury Center for Career Services at Trinity Hall and need to be completed and returned by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 7.
Students are responsible for their own transportation to Washington, D.C., and to meet the guided group at the designated time and place. Day 1 will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude after the evening reception, while Day 2 will conclude at 5 p.m. A block of hotel rooms is being reserved for any students interested; travel and accommodations are at the expense of each student. Complete itineraries will be e-mailed with acceptance letters on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
